Co-dynastychief Moang Josef Blasius Bapa Mekeng of KangaE (E-Flores)

This area lies north of the main Sikka area.
When the first raja of Sikka; Moang Ratu Dom Alesu Ximenes da Silva; came back from Malakka after a trip, where he tried to find the country of peace(but found instead the relgion of peace), he had in his possesion some dignity sticks. One of them he gave to a ruler in one of the 2 semi-vasal areas of Sikka: KangaE.
That dignitystick with a golden knob was given to Moang Goleng. Then he made a sort of Raja. From then on the rulers of KangaE considered themselves as raja, but Sikka always said, that they were part of the bigger Sikka principality.
Never really they totally amde them selves free from the contacts with Sikka.
In KangaE there was not a real centralised government.
In 1902 there was still much tension of Sikka with his rival larantuka to the est, so the Dutch found it better to create a more centralised principality of KangaE as a bufferstate between the 2 rivals.
Raja Moang NaE was made in 1902 raja and became really totally independent in 1907.
Lter they Dutch east Indish Government found it better tio cenrtalise some areas, so also this mountain area of KangaE became in 1923 a part of Sikka and Raja NaE officially abdicated as ruler 9-11-1925.After 1923 the rulers of KangaE were called Kapitan.
Raja NaE died in 1930.After his abdication none of his sons were considered as suitable to become ruler of KangaE. So a son of an uncle of Raja NaE;Moang Petrus Jacobus Bapa Mekeng became Kapitan. This in 1902 born prince was the highest educated of his area.
At that time he also married a noblewoman attached to the palace of the Moang Ratu/raja of Sikka.
In 1948 (the powervacuum area) the KangaE people wanted to restore their wished independence and also the Kapitan was not against it. After some fights the peace was restored again, but the Kapitan had to step down.
The a son of a brother of raja NaE became Kapitan; both of a bit reduced area: Ili Wetakara (ca. 90 % of old KangaE) :Kapitan MoE Bura.
After some years he was succeeded by the son of a brother of his father: Kapitan Alo Radja Lewa, who ruled for 3 years. Then succeeded by the brother of this Kapitan: Kapitan Petrus Radja Lewa, who ruled 2 years. The last Kapitan of KangaE/Ili Wetakara was another brother called Kapitan Johan Radja Lewa, who ruled for 3 years (still alive in 2000). Then the area became a more civil sub-district.
So you say, that the raja dynasty of KangaE now has 2 branches, whose chiefs are considered as co-dynastychiefs.
Moang Josef Blasius Bapa Mekeng is considered as one of them.He was born
3-2-1938 as 2nd son of his father. The oldest son died as a 1 month old baby. His wife is Donna Alfreda Ximenes da Silva; daughter of the last Raja of Sikka: Don Sentis Ximenes da Silva (regent before and nominal-raja 1954-1985).
This present co-dynastychief of KangaE has a long experience in the politics, transport business and also in the agriculture. From 1992-1997 he was member of the national parliament, then succeeded by his oldest son Moang Melkius Bapa Mekeng. His son was from 1999-2004 member of the consultatitive section of the Indonesian parliament and from 2004-2009 he will be the general member (DPRI) of the Indonesian parliament. His name is Melcias Marcus Mekeng (so also his father Mekeng in his name insead of Meheng) and as born 8-2-1963 married to Maria Lautentia Widyana and they have 3 children
Now the dynastychief runs his own financial company in Jakarta.

Correction of King Participants List

This is the correction list on the previous raja list.Unfortunately the list is made with short of documentation, because;my excuses I have to say it;many faults in it and also they call everyone here a king and a queen. Hereby I give you the many corrections.I hope Mrs. Meike can also correct it on the list for official use and also maybe send it to the coordination team in Denpasar for official use in the countries of
Europe they will visit outside Europe. When she have any questions about it she always can mail me.Okay; here are the corrections/additional following the numbers on the list.

First:
There are only 24 real kings/dynastychiefs coming.
The total amount of attending dynasties are 36.yes,that is a considerable diminishing of the amount of people/dynasties coming, but I think the team in Indonesia made a clever selection,so that all areas are represented.
A pity only, that the Sutan of Indragiri and some of his dynastymembers are not coming and also the monarchs of Papua are not attending. Some of the areas on the list are not real former kingdoms, but only regencies,or sub-principalities.
1. He is the Raja of Badung-Denpasar. Denpasar is only a town.
Blah Batu is only a district of a principality(maybe they can tell me later from which area.I have in my documentation, but to busy to find it).
8. Is only a dynastychief, but okay,we can recognize him as candidate-raja. On Bali we better can speak about rajas (with titles Anak Agung,Tjokorda,or Dewa Agung) 9/10 are only representatives of the Sultan of Dompu on the siland of Sumbawa.I know the sultan.
11-17 are from Lombok;the Sasak people(also there are the Hindu-people). Actually none are officially installed. But okay,we say, they are dynastychiefs,or if they really want raja.Actually the male royalty/nobility here has the title lalu before their name and as Raja they have the title Datu mostly.Where exactly is Sokong,I do not know.Maybe my sasak specilaist in Indonesia can tell me,or someone else.Thank you for that. Very strangemthat they talk 3 times about a King of Sokong.Porbably only the first is the raja, the others only dynastymembers (or:the one with Datu before his name). The one called King of Pejanggik must be Lalu Mahdaraini.Sometimes he says he is raja of Selaparang.Probably in the same area. With overlapping historical claims.
In the NTT section we see the rajas of Timor. The first one must be Usif Pah.Already installed. From Kupang he is Usif. Not officially installed.24.Amabi is Fettor-raja.22 is the Liurai of Malakka(mind the spelling!)

26: He is sultan
28: He is Panembahan
29: He is Sultan Sri Kesuma Negara V
31: Candidate Panembahan
32: He is only representative of the Tuhan Besar dynasty of Kubu(or
Maybe of another branch of the dynasty. But I do not think so).
33: Candidate Panembahan.
34: He is Sultan Jamaluddin II
35: He is only the brother of the Sultan 36:He is maybe son of Maradia of Mamuju in Mandar area/see Sulbar(West Sulawesi),but this name is
placed het wrongly, because this is East-Kalimantan.
37: He is Candidate Sultan,or at least dynastychief of Sambaliung(mind
the spelling) in Berau area.
38: He is not the sultan of Banjarmasin.I know the Candidate Sultan of
Banjarmasin(so not Banjar)and that is the Bupati of Banjar. My wife is a
princess of Banjarmasin,so that is why I know it very good abiuyt this
this dynasty.Maybe His Highness Gusti Marhusin can tell me,what is
exactly the function of this royal in the dynasty.
40: Only the representative of the Arumpone(raja)of Bone.I know the
Candidate Arumpone.
41/42: Only sub-rajas.
43: He is Raja Andi Abdul Rauf Maro Karaeng Rewa of Tallo. The areas in Sulsel and Sulbar( south and west Sulawesi)have royals with Andi before their name. That is the royal title for Prince/Princess.More polite to put that on the list before their name.I think.
45: He is the Karaeng of Sanrabone(mid the completer writing of the name of the principality)
47: Only a regent,not a king.
49: Maybe they mean Suppa with it.I know the name of the(main) Candidate Datu of Suppa,so this royal only the representative of the Candidate Datu.
50: Only the representative of the Raja of Banggai.I know the present raja.
51: The same one as nr. 36
53: He is the son of the Maradia of Binuang.I hoope later to know ,which of the attenduing sons of the kings are also crownprinces.
55: Only representative of the Maradia of Balanipa.I know the present maradia. As you see the title of raja in Mandar area is Maradia.
57: The representative of the Maradia of Majene. The word Banggai must be actually BanggaE and that is a sub/vasal-pincipality in Majene.
58: He is Sultan Basharsyah II
60: He is the minor-Sultan of Deli
62: He is Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin III
64: He is not the king(actually the name of the monarch of Solo/Surakarta is Susuhunan and that is Emperor),but only a representative of the dynasty.
65: He is the Candidate Panembahan.Sumenep is on Madura. His name is Raden Pangeran Abdul Mukarram Judo Adingrat
I hoope all of you can use it.

East-West Cultural Royal Bali Tour 2009

Rajas and Sultans will visit Europe to promote tourism in Indonesia in March 2009

Message (2): 20 January 2009
by: Ferdy de Smeth van Alphen

From the 10th to the 27th of March a group of 80 royals from kingdoms from all over the Republic of Indonesia will visit several European countries to promote tourism in their country in general and specifically in their kingdoms.
This ‘East-West Cultural Royal Bali Tour’ has the strong support of the Indonesian Government; i.e. the Ministry for Culture and Tourism, as well as the Ministry of Transport.
The kings will be guided by the chairman of the Forum Silaturahmi Keraton Se-Nusantara (FSKN): His Royal Highness The King of Denpasar IX Raja Ida Tjokorda Ngurah Jambe Pemecutan. The King and his retinue will visit the following countries in Europe:

Date(s): Destination – Countries:

10-13 March Germany – Berlin (ITB messe)
13-16 March Monaco
16-19 March France
19-22 March Great Brittan – London
22-26 March The Netherlands

The main objectives of the East-West Cultural Royal Bali Tour are:

- Receiving the award for The World's Best Spa (in Berlin – ITB Messe) by The King of Denpasar, Bali,
- To attract tourism - specifically eco tourists and cultural tourists - to the various
Kingdoms of Indonesia,
- Connect and make friendships with various leaders in our destination countries,
ideally with the Royal Families and other members of the European nobility,
- To establish links with groups focused on the conservation of cultural and natural
heritage,
- To explore opportunities for business partnerships, specifically in Green Investments
like solar energy, geothermal, wind power and trade of sustainably harvested products.

Background Information:
- The Indonesian kings want to carry their message to the world ; the message that while
accepting modernity, we must learn to live again in harmony with nature, with people
from different backgrounds, and with various religions. In other words, they carry the
message of the national motto - Unity in Diversity. We Are All One.
- Therefore the Kings would also like to make symbolic gestures such as planting trees,
perhaps donating to orphanages, and making symbolic gestures to bridge leaders of
various faiths together. The King of Denpasar will be bringing religious leaders from
Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic and Protestant faiths.
- In the interests of preserving Indonesian culture, the delegates would also like to meet
with various experts in the cultural fields - these could be professors from
Universities, museum curators, etc.
- In 2006 FSKN – or the Association of the Royal Palace in Indonesia, as they like to
call themselves in English - was established with 57 member palaces. Now the
number of its members has risen to 118 palaces. The role of the FSKN in Indonesia
perceived by its board is as follows: The traditional palaces were one of the means to
develop national culture. This is why the association’s members believed they need to
maintain their community in a spirit of fraternity.
- Besides King Tjokorda Ngurah Jambe Pemecutan IX who is the chairman, the board
of the FSKN consists of a secretary: H.R.H. Prince Gurnaso of Surakarta. And the
treasury of the FSKN is Mr. A. Fanggiday, now chef de mission for this East-West
Cultural Royal Bali Tour,
- drs. Ferdy baron de Smeth van Alphen, from Amsterdam – The Netherlands, visited
the 1st South East Asia Culture Royal Festival & Exposition in Bali, in November
2008, on behalf of the European Nobility and is now appointed to act on behalf of
King Tjokorda Ngurah Jambe Pemecutan IX in the capacity of “Ambassadeur
Extraorordinaire” together with the organisation committee for the preparation of the
Royal Journey to Europe.
